Why we live at Holy Family Senior Living

Four residents from the Queen of Peace Apartments sat down with Service Coordinator Tanis Ritchie to discuss how Holy Family Senior Living brings renewal and hope to their lives. Mary Kay Schreffler, Joanne Polka, Bonnie Schultz and Peg Tobias each shared their experiences at HFSL.

Mary Kay (pictured at right) stated that moving to Holy Family made her feel more at home because there are crosses on the walls in the building; plus a Priest comes and holds Masses and Communion. There is a sense of Christianity, familiarity and friendship among fellow residents. “You just don’t know how good that makes us feel,” said Mary Kay. “We can’t go to church anymore, but church comes here! We can hold prayer meetings and say the Rosary. Life can get lonely and painful as we get older — losing loved ones and friends causes a lot of grief. But here we can get together and support one another. It just makes me feel a lot better knowing that we have that.”

Joanne (pictured at left) confirmed this and stated, “it doesn’t matter if you’re Catholic, Lutheran or Jewish — everyone is welcome and we support each other. I have a lot of friends here!”

Bonnie nodded in agreement while Peg stated, “it is so wonderful that they allow us to do that. I can feel the peace in my heart, I feel at home. We respect each other and are comfortable talking to each other about God.”

Joanne concluded the conversation with, “We pray for each other, and it makes a person smile; we are all friends!” — (followed by a BIG smile from everyone)!
